Our first stop is the Archaeological Museum of Chania, located in the Halepa area, where approximately 3,500 ancient artifacts are on display, including an important collection of exhibits from the Minoan and Roman periods from excavations around the city of Chania and the rest of Crete. The museum contains a large variety of coins, jewelry, vases, sculptures, clay tablets with inscriptions, and other items. Kissamos, Elyros, and others.
The museum contains a wide variety of coins, jewelry, vases, sculptures, clay tablets with inscriptions, columns, and mosaics. The museum has a Roman floor mosaic depicting Dionysus and Ariadne.
It also has a series of busts, including that of the Roman emperor Hadrian, and many other exhibits.
Next, we will head to the center of Chania. Once we arrive, we will feel the sea breeze and, as we descend towards the old town and the Venetian Harbor, we can admire the historic architecture and walk along the picturesque Venetian Harbor.
You can visit the iconic Chania Lighthouse (the walk requires stamina, walking shoes, and water) and stroll through the narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Town, full of traditional taverns, cafes, and beautiful shops.
Relax and unwind in the beautiful and welcoming cafes located on the cobblestone Venetian harbor, where you can enjoy your coffee or beer while cooling off in the sea breeze.
Next to the Old Port, you can admire the Kioutsouk Hassan Mosque (Yali Mosque), a masterpiece of Islamic art. It dates back to the second half of the 17th century and was built in honor of the first commander of Chania, Kioutsouk Hassan. The mosque has a cubic structure covered by a large hemispherical dome without a drum, supported by four elaborate stone arches. On the west and north sides, it is surrounded by a portico covered by six small domes without drums. The Kioutsouk (small) Hassan or Yallie (rich) Mosque, as it came to be known, was the work of an Armenian architect who lived in Crete at the time.
A little further along the old harbor, in the Firka fortress, is the Maritime Museum of Crete, where the permanent exhibition includes 2,500 exhibits such as relics, objects recovered from the seabed, paintings, maps, photographs, ship models, various nautical instruments, etc. The museum's rooms are divided into sections according to the period to which the exhibits belong, covering the Bronze Age to the modern era.
If you wish, you can enjoy a relaxing meal in high-end restaurants or traditional fish taverns in the Old Town, where you can sample local traditional dishes from Cretan cuisine.
Finally, after a full and beautiful day, return to your hotel or accommodation to rest, taking with you beautiful images from the places we visited, the wonderful flavors, and unforgettable memories.
